At La Concha Resort we are always inspired by the colorful scenery and vibrant Puerto Rican culture that surrounds us. Street art in Puerto Rico has been gaining popularity, thanks to our neighbor Santurce, the capital of street art in San Juan. Here at La Concha, we did not want any FOMO, and invited world-renowned graffiti artist Alec Monopoly to create a mural on one of our external walls. This way, everyone walking around our popular corner can enjoy this magnificent work of art.
Alec Monopoly is known for his subversive representation of culture icons. So nothing better than unveiling the 240” x 360” mural of famous Puerto Rican salsa singer Héctor Lavoe. This highlights La Concha’s love for arts and music, while we reaffirm the richness of the cultural heritage of Puerto Rico through street art at La Concha. Monopoly said: “painting Héctor Lavoe in Puerto Rico is a great privilege, it means to honor his legacy.”
Right after the unveiling, Monopoly announced he was donating an 84” x 46” canvas version of the same painting to the Museo de Arte de Ponce. Funds obtained from this auction will go to reconstruction fund for the museum’s main building, which was damaged during the January 2020 earthquakes in the south. María Luisa Ferré Rangel, president of the Museo de Arte de Ponce, was present to accept this donation.
The artist also adorned another one of our walls at Serafina Restaurant with one of his iconic namesake masterpieces. This adds more corners to sit back, relax, and enjoy art in simple ways. And more reasons to appreciate street art at La Concha!
We are excited to have his breathtaking work of art in our house, shining bright even at night. Visit us, and let’s continue celebrating music and arts our way!
