A rainy day in Puerto Rico, now what?
Your vacation is finally here, you arrive on a beautiful sunny day, enjoying the wonderful views from your hotel room and are eager to go down to the beach and discover the wonderful things to do in Puerto Rico, when suddenly the rain starts. A rainy day can ruin many places you planned to visit in Puerto Rico. Although we wish you blue sunny skies every day, we advise you to always check the weather before leaving your room, or planning outings; you are in the Caribbean after all, where the weather report is mostly: sunny with a chance of rain.
You may have been planning this tropical beach getaway for a while and we know rain was not listed as part of your plans, but it’s important to note that here in Puerto Rico, it’s not all about the beach. There are plenty of things to do in Puerto Rico so you can enjoy a rainy day during your trip.
Chill at your hotel!
Staying at your hotel is always a great option, after all, some R&R is the whole point of a vacation. At La Concha Resort you can enjoy the various amenities for you, like Casino del Mar, the Fitness Center which includes the one of a kind Wine Yoga class, or even visit The Spa at The Condado Vanderbilt next door for a mindful break with the most skilled therapists in San Juan.
The mouthwatering Culinary Experiences at La Concha are so delightful, you will not feel the need to go outdoors; like burgers and tapas with a view, all-day beach front Sunday brunch, and more. Stimulate all your senses with the one-of-a-kind Culinary Workshops where you can learn how to make sushi, and local dishes like the famous Mofongo.
Did someone say drinks? Get to know the Mixed Troupe bartenders behind the Lobby Bar, and their luscious signature drinks. Savor the Dream Within or the Forbidden, while you wait for a clear sky, and even with rain or no rain you can’t leave without being part of the iconic events at La Concha, unique happenings favored by locals and tourists alike.
If you prefer to stay in your bath robe all day, just relax in your room, order In-Room dining and take it all in. The Suite Tower at La Concha offers a private retreat for your pleasure, with European-style kitchenettes and even a private whirlpool in your balcony which will make you forget about the rain.
Soak in the local Puerto Rico Culture
The first thing that pops to our heads when we think indoor things to do in Puerto Rico as entertainment is a museum, and there are plenty of options for just about everyone. Located in the artsy and hip neighborhood of Santurce, you can enjoy a tribute to our local art in the breathtaking Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, and the nearby stunning Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, founded by the community for the community. Just steps away, in Miramar the recently launched Museum of Art and Design Miramar (MADMi), is a space that celebrates diversity where visitors can experience the richness of art and design.
The Museo de Arte de Ponce houses 4,500 works of art exploring the history of three regions that have impacted Puerto Rico: Europe, Africa and the Americas. You can’t miss Fredric Leighton’s Flaming June, which lives right here in Ponce since 1963.
Your kids can get in the museum fun too at the Museo del Niño de Carolina, a hands-on experience they will cherish forever. Made for the little scientists, animal lovers, artists and mini engineers of your life!
If you prefer the theater, take a look at the events in the beautiful Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré in Santurce; from Broadway, to Ballet classics, and grand concerts. And don’t miss a visit to Casa Bacardí, a great option to do in a rainy day in Puerto Rico, where you can choose from the Historic Tour, Rum Tasting Tour or a Mixology Class.
Shopping in San Juan
There’s not a better excuse to go to a mall while on vacation, than a little rain! The The Mall of San Juan is the newest shopping center in San Juan. Very much worth the visit for its unique luxury stores, exceptional restaurants, and fun activities for the whole family.
This more upscale shopping mall with Nordstrom as its anchor store is located near the airport for easy access, and they even offer a complimentary luggage storage so you can shop comfortably before heading to the airport.
Around the Island
While in San Juan it might be rainy, on other parts of the Island it may very well be dry and sunny. A visit to the west coast, a stroll around Ponce, or even Old San Juan are some options to consider during a cloudy day.
Fun fact: here in Puerto Rico and other parts of the Caribbean, there is a superstition where you have to get wet on the first rain of May for good luck! We’d like to think that you will get lucky if you catch some Caribbean rain at any moment during your stay in our Island. So start planning and book your stay at La Concha today!
